DNTW Chartered Accountants, LLP is a national, full service firm servicing the niche market of independent contractors. We have developed a value-added program that specifically addresses your needs as an independent contractor. This program is available only through the offices of DNTW Chartered Accountants, LLP.
We specialize in providing services to the knowledge-based professional including medical, engineering and information technology consultants.
Independent contractors is a major service area of all DNTW offices, and we are specializing in providing services to the independent contractor, whether in the IT area or other areas. We understand knowledge-based professionals and we have made a commitment to ensure that we maintain our knowledge of the independent contractor business from a tax, accounting and marketing standpoint.
Unlike other firms, we try to go beyond the basics of accounting and tax. We help our clients “take ownership of their careers.”
The Opportunity
Fact: The typical incorporated independent contractor will realize between 60% and 80% more after-tax income than a full time employee doing the same work.
The following is how our firm can help you realize these same results
The Process
Complimentary Initial Consultation Each DNTW office offers a no cost, no commitment conference where together, we determine your needs and how we might best address those needs for you.
Assisting with incorporation Today, most placement firms and their clients will only work with incorporated independent contractors. Our offices will be pleased to assist you in establishing your company with an appropriate share structure. Our offices will explain the mutual advantages for the contractor to be incorporated and will manage the process of getting your company incorporated.
Complimentary seminars are offered to introduce creative tax minimization concepts We offer live and video seminars providing an introduction to the advantages of independent contracting as well as an overview of insurance and benefit packages designed specifically for the independent contractor through our insurance contacts across Canada.
Complimentary seminars and brochures are offered to review the most cost effective methods of capturing your financial information Live and video seminars designed primarily to assist you with your accounting and bookkeeping needs, allow us to maximize the time we can spend on matters that will add value to your business. The seminar reviews the “standard chart of accounts” line by line indicating the various types of expenses that can be claimed by the independent contractor and the appropriate account in which to allocate the expense.
Website and hard copy resources are available to answer the majority of your “frequently asked” questions. These brochures are available on our website or in hardcopy from our offices. These materials address your needs from the advantages of incorporation, through maximizing those advantages, to building your investment portfolio. These resources provide you with insight as to what you can claim in order to maximize your expense claim to lower your taxes.
Assistance with maintaining your accounting records A quick reference chart of accounts is provided to you, outlining a fairly substantial list of the nature of expenses that are permitted within each expense category. Our clients find this a valuable tool when recording their transactions.
Templates are available to assist you in setting up your chart of accounts in some of the more common commercial accounting software packages. For those of you who like to “keep it simple,” we have developed spreadsheets for your use.
Financial statement analysis and benchmarking of your expenses against industry database We maintain both commercial and proprietary software that allows us to benchmark your actual results against the results of your peers thus helping you to maximize the deductions to which you are entitled.
Reasonably priced optional “Tax Care Service” so that DNTW can represent you before Canada Revenue Agency and other tax agencies We offer an optional fixed fee service for our independent contractor clients. For a reasonable annual fee, we will represent you through the appeal process with taxation authorities within Canada to ensure that your concerns are properly dealt with in the event of an audit.
A unique financial care planning document for planning and forecasting This document provides guidelines for accounting, tax, financial, estate matters and insurance and risk management protection as issues that concern you. This document ensures that all issues relevant to you are being addressed.
We are always available to discuss these matters with you and your other advisors.
