Markham Office
Spence Walker, BComm, CA, CPA
Spence joined the firm, as a partner in 2004. Previously, Spence was with a mid size accounting firm where he gained experience with US and Canadian public company clients, a niche he continues to do a significant amount of work in.
Spence earned his BComm in 2001 from Ryerson Univeristy, his CA designation in 2003 and his CPA designation in 2004. In 2007, Spence took on the responsibility for leading DNTW’s audit services and has overall responsibility for the Markham office. Spence is also an expert in Scientific Research and Experimental Development (“SR&ED”) tax credits in Canada. He heads the SR&ED division of DNTW from the Markham office.
Joseph (Joe) Macdonald, BComm, CA
Joe, a graduate of the University of Toronto (St. Michael’s College), completed his CA designation in 1984 with Price Waterhouse. Joe’s experience includes being a columnist for a trade newspaper, teaching at the university and college levels, consulting and traditional accounting firm work.
Joe is the original author and continues to be a significant contributor to a corporate tax checklist used by accounting firms across Canada. He has also written various other checklists, manuals and prototypes for tax, audit and accounting on behalf of government departments, accounting firms and professional publishers.
Joe helped to found DNTW and assists it and other accounting firms with quality assurance matters, advises on the design and implementation of systems for professional firms, practice management issues, litigation support and professional conduct/negligence matters.
Joe knows what it is like to manage an organization. Apart from advising many clients over the years, Joe’s experience includes managing profitability and cashflow for 25 staff and being an active long-time board member for a charity with over 100 staff.
Joe’s other community involvement has included serving as a government appointee for a commission, and serving as on various professional, political and not-for-profit boards and advisory committees. He also co-authoured and presented a study guide for hearing-impaired high school and post secondary students and done a number of television interviews.
Bryce Walker, BComm, CA
Bryce became a partner at DNTW in 2010 and held the position of audit manager since 2006. Bryce is the lead engagement partner on many of the public company audits for the Markham office and is very experienced with Canadian, US and IFRS public company auditing. Bryce also has extensive experience with owner-managed businesses.
Prior to joining DNTW, Bryce worked for mid-sized accounting firms performing audits of public and private companies as well as providing corporate and personal tax services.
Bryce earned his BComm in 2002 from Ryerson University and his CA designation in 2004.
