Ross B. McNichol, B.Comm., C.A.

Ross was born and raised in Calgary. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1972 and joined Price Waterhouse & Co., where he completed his articles in 1974 and was admitted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.

Ross spent 8 years from 1978 to 1985 with the Trimac group of companies, as Corporate Controller and later Treasurer. From 1985 to 2007 he operated his own general accounting and tax practice in Calgary.

Ross’ clients cover a broad spectrum, and include executives and other high net worth individuals, small business owners, partnerships, private and public corporations, retirees, charities and other not-for-profit entities.

He has had significant involvement over the years with his profession, serving on a number of committees for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and has served as President of Calgary’s Entrepreneurial CA’s Society. He has also been involved behind the scenes in Calgary’s charitable and not-for-profit sector in Calgary, and has been a member since 2002 on the board of directors of The Calgary Foundation, Calgary’s community foundation, serving as Board Chair from 2006 to 2008.

Ross and his wife Janice are the proud parents of four daughters and grandparents of three granddaughters and two grandsons.

Jim Maldaner, CA

Jim has extensive experience both in public accounting and in industry. The industry experience included substantial background in the oil & gas industry in various senior financial capacities incorporating CFO, controllership and treasury functions. Projects included administering public corporations, initiating and managing internal audit, arranging financings and implementing both mergers and acquisitions.

Jim’s public accounting experience started with Price Waterhouse and convened as a sole practitioner and consultant before joining with Terry Crooks in 1995 to form Maldaner Crooks. More currently, the Chartered Accounting firm of Maldaner Crooks Watson, has enjoyed a valuable client base which includes small to medium sized owner managed companies, personal and corporate tax, and publicly listed entities, all in a variety of industries. The firm enjoys an international exposure and affiliation and with the predominant domestic clientele, Jim practices in the audit, accounting and tax fields.

Special consulting services to industry includes financial and managerial support and advising to business development and operational strategy. Jim is an active member of the Board of Directors for both public and private entities.

Terry Crooks, CA

Terry Crooks has worked as a chartered accountant for over 38 years in both public accounting and private industry. His public accounting experience started with Coopers & Lybrand in Hamilton, Ont. After a broad ranging exposure to industry in oil and gas and the service sectors, he formed a consulting operation that provided computer and accounting support to industry. In 1995 he joined his long-time colleague, Jim Maldaner, to form Maldaner Crooks Chartered Accountants.

The firm expanded into Maldaner Crooks Watson Chartered Accountants and its client base included small to medium sized owner managed companies, personal and corporate tax and publicly listed entities, all in a variety of industries. In the fall of 2008, Maldaner Crooks Watson joined DNTW Chartered Accountants, LLP.

Terry has recently completed the CICA two year in-depth tax course, and along with a myriad of specialized courses in past years, he is transitioning to income tax as his full-time specialty. Terry has managed the personal tax programs within the firm for over 14 years. Terry is involved in both corporate and personal tax in the compliance and planning area, corporate structures, international issues and tax reporting issues.

Chris Watson, CA

Chris obtained varied experience in England in public practice and industry before coming to Canada in 1982 with a Big 4 Accounting Firm. He has enjoyed leading roles in auditing and accounting including a stint in the oil and gas industry. In 1992 he started his own accounting practice building up a valuable client base including public entities and also consulted to the Chief Accountant’s Office of the Alberta Securities Commission as part of their financial statement review program. In 2003 he merged his practice with Maldaner Crooks to form Maldaner Crooks Watson.

Chris focuses on assurance services but also consults with small to medium sized businesses in a wide variety of industries.

Chris is a volunteer member of the Finance & Audit Committee of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region and has served on other volunteer committees including the Calgary Stampede.

David Livingstone, CA

David obtained his CA designation in 1985 working with a national accounting firm in Cranbrook B.C. and has over 15 years of public practice experience, including involvement in mining, oil and gas, not for profit, manufacturing, real estate, technological and service industries for both public and private companies.

David was a controller/CFO with a start up public company for several years and has also been involved with the audits of both public and private companies, assisted with the controllership responsibilities of smaller companies, and provides accounting and tax services to the owner managed businesses.
